Evie Davis
I grew up in a small town just outside of Charlotte, NC where I loved to help my mom in the garden and draw in my free time. In high school, I was heavily involved in the arts and after graduating in 2017, I went off to major in Studio Art at Appalachian State University. During my time there, the biodiversity and beauty of the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains captivated me and a passion for environmental stewardship took hold. I switched majors halfway through my college career and in 2022, I graduated with a degree in Sustainable Development and minors in Biology and Studio Art.
In my early professional career, I have primarily worked in community gardens and organic farms across Western North Carolina, practicing and learning about sustainable food systems. During those years, I also volunteered with the environmental nonprofit organization, MountainTrue, and was thrilled to serve with them as their AmeriCorps 2023-24 member last year. During this position, I led groups of volunteers in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties where we removed nonnative invasive plant species and planted native trees in public spaces. I also organized volunteers in citizen science water quality programs where we collected and analyzed microplastic and E.coli levels in the watersheds of WNC.
My secondary education paired with experiences in sustainable agriculture and ecological restoration were deeply rewarding and have motivated me to gain experience in the field of education. My goals moving forward are to be a better advocate for our environment by learning to effectively communicate to others the importance of protecting the natural world. I am thrilled to be serving at Brevard Academy as one of the AmeriCorps members this year where I will have the opportunity to learn from the amazing teachers at this school while assisting students with academic resources for success.
